Leroy Hood, MD, PhD President and co-founder, Institute for Systems Biology

Dr. Hood has established a systems approach to understanding the complexity of biology and medicine.  He has played a pivotal role in the DNA sequencing industry and his innovations were essential for the sequencing of the human genome.  Dr. Hood has been instrumental in the founding of numerous research and commercial enterprises, including Applied Biosystems, Amgen and the Institute for System Biology, where he currently holds the position of President.  He has won several awards and accolades, including; the 2003 AMP award for excellence in Molecular Diagnostics, the Academy of Engineering’s Russ Prize, the Lasker Award and the Kyoto Prize.  Dr. Hood has more than 700 peer reviewed articles and is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering and the Institute of Medicine.

Gregory Tsongalis, PhD, HCLD, FACB Director of Molecular Pathology, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center

Dr. Tsongalis has received many awards for his contributions to molecular pathology from the American Society for Investigative Pathology, ACLPS, NACB, ACS, IFCC-AVL and AACC.  He also serves as Co-Director of the Pathology Translational Research Core Facility and Pharmacogenomics Program, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Dr. Tsongalis is on the editorial board of Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Journal of Clinical Virology and Journal of Molecular. Dr. Tsongalis specializes in clinical molecular diagnostic applications for oncological, genetic and infectious diseases.  He is the author of over 100 peer-reviewed publications.

Belinda Yen-Lieberman, PhD, HCLD, FACB Director of Clinical Virology, Serology, and Cellular Immunology in the Department of Clinical Pathology at Cleveland Clinic

Dr. Yen-Lieberman is also Professor of Pathology, Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio.  Dr. Yen-Lieberman is board registered with a specialty in virology with the American society for Clinical Pathologists.  Dr. Yen-Lieberman has served on NIH study sections for two decades, and is a member of ASM, AMP, PASCV and ASCP.  She is on the editorial board of numerous peer reviewed journals, and is the author of over 100 peer-reviewed publications.

Gregory Storch, MD, PhD Medical Director, Clinical Microbiology Laboratories, St. Louis Children's Hospital

Dr. Storch is devoted to using molecular methods to improve the rapid diagnosis of infections. Dr. Storch is also the Ruth L. Siteman Professor of Pediatrics at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.  He specializes in pediatric infectious diseases and in particular viral and tick-borne infections.  Dr. Storch is especially interested in the use of high throughput molecular methods for pathogen discovery.  Dr. Storch was listed in the Best Doctors in America, 2002-2010, and has over 150 peer-reviewed publications.

David Hillyard, MD Associate Professor of Pathology, Univ. of Utah School of Medicine

Dr. Hillyard was Principal Investigator on two research grants awarded by the National Science Foundation and the United States Agency for International Development. In addition to his research work and clinical teaching, Dr. Hillyard has presented at National conferences and meetings on various topics including the “Validation of quantitative real-time assays” and “Addressing the genetic diveristy of HCV by real-time PCR.”  Dr Hillyard is Medical Director of the molecular infectious diseases section, the molecular hepatitis/retrovirus section, and the molecular sequencing section of the Molecular Pathology Laboratory at ARUP. The ARUP Institute for Clinical and Experimental Pathology, founded by members of the Department of Pathology at the University of Utah, was designed to transition University-based research into practical applications.  He is the author of over 50 peer-reviewed publications.

Jay Fishman, MD Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School

Dr. Fishman is President-elect of the American Society of Transplantation - the first Infectious Disease physician to serve in this capacity. He is a Fellow of the Infectious Disease Society of America and of the American College of Physicians. He is Associate Editor of the American Journal of Transplantation and Transplant Infectious Diseases. He has served on several NIH advisory committees and national and international data safety monitoring boards for transplantation and the Immune Tolerance Network. Dr. Fishman has lectured and published extensively on infection in immune compromised hosts, on viral and fungal infections, on the pathogenesis of pneumonia, and on the infectious risks and benefits associated with xenotransplantation.  He is the author of over 100 peer-reviewed publications.
